Most people get tattoos which mean something to them. What other’s think about them is often little to no concern of the person getting ink’d.
In most cases, you’re talking about Chinese characters which often spell out some type of motto or creed about life.
The downside to getting one like that is you need to make certain the characters mean what you think it means, as there’s a lot of subtle variation in characters, and you could end up looking very silly when you do run into a Chinese speaker.
hahahah….this so funny….i do not have any tattoos, but i know someone who got one in chinese, it ended up not saying what they wanted…..hahaha, now they are stuck with it for life!
Well not everyone gets tattoos for other people, but themselves and as long as they can read it, ok. It’s a form of expression and art. Having the word “Love” in english on your arm is way too corny.
A lot of people (like myself) get tattoos that are of signifigance to me. I really don’t care what others think about it. I don’t have an “Asian” character tattoos but if I wanted one, I’d get one that meant something to me.
It’s trendy and popular. Also many think they are getting a tattoo that says something sentimental when it really says something offensive, because they can’t read it and the tattoo artist was ignorant as well.
because they think they’re cool, but the real joke would be on them if someone who could read it discovered it said something completely different than what they wanted.
Most people do not have tattoo’s placed upon their person for the benefit of others but for themselves. This being said, they may find them intriguing or understand, appreciate, and can relate to them. For whatever reason, it’s for them not for you. The public is secondary as to why they may get them, thus not being of any real importance.
Because it’s a trend and people follow trends. My stupid ex-husband did it, thinking he was getting my daughter’s name, and then he started working with or hanging out with some Chinese guy, and the guy never did stop give him crap, telling him that it actually said “dumb*ss”. Of course he’ll never know if it’s true. That’s what is stupid. You don’t actually know what the scruffy white biker from Sheboygen is putting on your butt cheek, or panty line, or wherever. What if he has a wicked sense of humor?
I actually studied chinese for 3 years. (Mandarin) So I can decipher a lot of the usual symbols people get inked on them. It’s amusing to me. Most people get a symbol that they think means ‘beautiful’ but really means ‘foot’. Or the symbol is upside down, missing strokes, or in the wrong order. I get a good chuckle out of assanine things like this. If you don’t know what in the hell it means, learn how to use a Chinese dictionary (which does take some effort), or DON’T get it.
And here’s a word of chinese wisdom: our western names are NOT easily translated into chinese. For example my middle name “Michelle” is roughly translated into “Mixue” which means “honey” “snow”. Names are usually translated into chinese phonetically…but if it’s the meaning in a name you are looking for, you’re going to have to do some research to find words for the qualities in your name or yourself you want to convey.
I also completely agree with the guy who said: “My tattoos aren’t for you they are for me”. I don’t give crap if joe blow understands the symbology of my tattoo. It’s personal to me.
I don’t get it either. It seems like too many people buy into trends without knowing what they are getting. Heck, since they don’t know what the symbols mean, those tattoos could be saying “hello, I am a dumba**”
because they think there KOOL!!!
cause it mean something to them guess.

They think it looks cool
Because they want to feel like they fit in with a different crowd. It just makes them look like an idiot if you ask me.
they think they’re tight. the artist probably puts something like “gay” on chinese when the person gettin it thinks it something like “badass”
i laugh at those people
Asians can read them………………
I don’t know –
but hopefully it actually means something like ‘do me in the a s s’ in “asian writing”.
Perhaps it’s because they like the way it looks.
so that other people will come up to them and say, “What’s that mean?” …
because it means something to them…. they know what it means
and they probally dont care that u cant read it
Because it looks cool. Maybe it means something to the person who got the tattoo.
I think thats very ignorant to do. U dont know what the writing may mean!
hahahah….this so funny….i do not have any tattoos, but i know someone who got one in chinese, it ended up not saying what they wanted…..hahaha, now they are stuck with it for life!
I would think it would be funny if the artist wrote something like “I’m an Idiot” or “This is a Tattoo”.
That someone even GET’s a Tattoo is beyond my comprehension…

they just want to be “cool.” whatever that means

to piss people off
They probably get them for themselves and not for other people to understand.

well i think that it means something to them like they might have a tattoo that means hope for breast cancer or something like that
they get it because it means something to them…it should not make a difference what anyone else thinks its on them forever…
My tattoos aren’t for you, they are for me.

cz they think it’s stylish n looks good on their body
i dnt have one…lol
I reckon… I wonder, do Asians get Tattoos in English writing, like “I embrace free enterprise”.
