The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is still searching for its leading lady, and the competition is heating up, as execs narrow it down to four contenders. Natalie Portman, Ellen Page and Carey Mulligan were all once up for the role. But they are now out of the running for various reasons, such as being too tall, too old or too famous. According to The Daily Beast, the role of Lisbeth Salander is down to “four virtually unknown actresses.” Those actresses are Sophie Lowe, Sarah Snook, Rooney Mara and Lea Seydoux. There has been much hype surrounding the role, and some are even calling it Oscar-worthy. The movie is an American remake of the Swedish film of the same title. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo follows the story of computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and a disgraced financial journalist. Daniel Craig has been confirmed to play opposite the lead female, and David Fincher has signed on to direct. Columbia Pictures plans to release the film in December of 2011.
