Can any one tell me what I would need to start a tattoo shop? I need equipment, office supplies and license?
I would take links to web sites also. A detailed list is what I need, starting from scratch.

Hello Van,
There are a few things that must be done to complete this long task. I’m guessing this is a business venture you’re starting and you are a tattoo artist. What I suggest to all of my clients when they are doing building a business is to contact their chamber of commerce. Find out what the business laws are in your state. Something you will also need to know is what the health code regulations are since it is a tattoo shop.
As far as equipment, you’ll be needing to get equipped with everything for doing the tats. The best way of planning that is to figure out your budget and how much money you can spend on good equipment. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions to vendors BEFORE you purchase the item. I’ve included some links to places that were located on the Internet for tat equipment. You can find them under Equipment.
Keep in mind, you’ll need to get things like a fire extinguisher, a first aid kid (for emergency reasons), a phone, gauze, paper towels. If you’re going to have a bathroom on site, you’ll need to supply it with toilet paper and a bar of soap for the sink.
For office supplies you would need a simple receipt type form that has your business name and will allow you to fill out the information of the customer order. This allows you to keep their order and they can have a copy as well. Something you want is a file cabinet to keep track of your daily, monthly and yearly records.
This will help you keep track of your tax records as well. If you know of a small business owner it might be worth it to ask them what they use as it could be a benefit.
Oh one more thought, write up a business plan if you haven’t already. It’s kind of a pain but if you write up what you want to do with planning on the business’ future and save it as you go, you’ll be really glad that you’re keeping up with it.
I’m sure there are other things that need to be added but I cannot think of them at the moment. I hope this has helped some. Best of luck on your venture!
